Well, CHEERS and a fine 2016 to us all. Apple Cider Vinegar in My New Favorite Salad and Detoxing Food

I’ve been taking apple cider vinegar (ACV) twice a day lately, and, as it is an essential part of this recipe, I figured this would be a delicious way to get it in me rather than just swigging it down with water.

I’d forgotten about the red cabbage, just falling into a rut with the white (or green), which is great too, of course.  Joey picked up a head of the red, while he was visiting us for the holidays, and promptly left it.  I remembered the red cabbage salad recipe we used to eat at King’s Road Cafe in L.A., and decided to try it.  So the following is based on that, but I’ve tweaked it a bit:

RED CABBAGE SALAD à la EveRed Cabbage Salad with Apple Cider Vinegar

1 medium red cabbage
1/2 bunch of parsley (chopped)
1/2 medium red onion (chopped)
Sea salt to taste
Fresh ground black pepper to taste
1/4 cup olive oil
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar

Directions:  Shred the cabbage and red onion using the “slicer” blade with your food processor and pop them into a large pretty serving bowl.   Season with salt and fresh ground pepper, and add in the chopped parsley. Drizzle the olive oil and apple cider vinegar over the lot. Gently mix together and serve, or cover and refrigerate. Apple Cider Vinegar’s Other Health Benefits

I know I’ve talked about apple cider vinegar before, but this is a great time for a gentle reminder to use this wonderful food to help our bodies chew up all the extra fat so the arteries can stay happy too. Complement the apple cider vinegar with the GB (fat digestion) and Eve’s Cardio (healthy heart blood flow) formulas for a great combination to enhance heart health and circulation.

Apple cider vinegar is an age old folk remedy and the pectin contained in it is known to soothe intestinal aches, spasms and pain. It is also known as an anti-bacterial and an anti-fungal.  The best mixture should include between 2 teaspoons and 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with some water, apple or other juice.

An effective way to help eliminate a sore throat is to gargle with apple cider vinegar. The pain-causing bacteria in the throat do not like the acid content, which means they will die off in a hurry when you gargle with it. Use about two ounces of apple cider vinegar mixed with two ounces of warm water and gargle once per hour for throat pain relief.

There has been quite a bit of research and studies on how to reduce high cholesterol. Some of these studies have shown apple cider vinegar to be beneficial for cholesterol levels*. In as little as one tablespoon, it is possible to lower cholesterol levels when taken daily. The acetic acid contained in the vinegar is what is believed to help normalize cholesterol in the body.
