Dehydration, especially in combination with high blood pressure, can sneak up on you and result in syncope (fainting). Dehydration problems don’t end with the lessening of summer temperatures either. The following symptoms are some of the unsubtle ways our body lets us know that we need to drink more water:

  • Dry mouth
  • Short temper
  • Back pain over the kidney area
  • Increased blood pressure
  • Muscle cramping
  • Tired/sleepy all the time
  • Passing out

While worse in the summer heat, dehydration is a year-round problem, especially for those who just don’t like drinking plain water. Alternatives might include:

  • Add 1-2 pieces of juicy fruits to your water (lime, lemon, melon, apple)
  • Eat 1-2 pieces of juicy fruits during the day
  • Vegetable juices and a daily salad

Aim for 1-2 quarts/day depending on your size and activities. Prost! Salute! and Cheers!
