Not that the rest of the year isn’t sugar time, but those lovely, innocent-looking umbrella drinks and the chocolate chSugar Cravingsocolate chip ice cream are enough to set off the “Sugar Happies” closely followed by the “Sugar Blues”.

One of the ways to undermine the power of those cravings is to eat nice clean proteins like the hummus recipe below.  It can always be ready to go – no waiting.  It satisfies the carb urge and our sugar-addicted little bodies forget about wanting the sugar – for a while anyway.  Of course, other foods like avocados, bananas and those great summer fruits also help.  Try eating them with a handful of almonds or other nuts (not peanuts).

SUGAR CRAVINGS VANQUISHED WITH NEW PAN D-M FORMULAPAN D-M for Sugar Cravings

JALAPEÑO HUMMUS RECIPE

Ingredients:
Navy (white) beans – Two 15 oz.(425g) cans
Garlic – 6 large cloves
Jalapeño – ½ to one fresh jalapeño pepper, depending on size and heat you like
Tahini (sesame seed butter) – 1 cup
Olive Oil – 1 cup
Cumin Seed – ¼ teaspoon
Lime Juice – 2 fresh limes
Coriander – 1/8 teaspoon
Sea Salt – 1 teaspoon or according to taste
Paprika – 1/8 teaspoon

Drain the navy beans and place them in the chopper/blender with all ingredients.  Use the pulse setting so as to stop and season further according to taste with the jalapeño and/or sea salt.  It’s an excellent vegetarian protein to eat with celery or rice crackers, or my favorite – sourdough pumpernickel bread.  With a salad, it makes a quick, easy power-packed meal.  Very toothsome!
